Subscriptions and billing

Granola has three plans: Basic (free), Business, and Enterprise. Billing is per-workspace. Every member shares the same plan, and you pay one seat per active member. Live pricing is on our pricing page. The Granola apps for mobile (iOS, Apple Watch, Android) are free to use; you don’t need a paid subscription to take notes on mobile.

What’s included on each plan?

On Basic, notes older than 30 days are stored (not deleted), but they aren’t accessible in the app until you upgrade. To get titles and summaries for your full note history now, export a CSV from Settings > Profile > Generate CSV; it’s emailed to you within a few hours. On Enterprise, Fable 5 in Chat is off by default; a workspace admin can enable it under Settings > Workspace > Data security > Claude Fable 5. Fable 5 is not subject to zero data retention, and Anthropic retains agent input-output logs for 30 days for trust and safety purposes.

Upgrading

Upgrade to Business

  1. In Granola, go to Settings > Billing.
  2. Click Upgrade on the Business card (or on the plan comparison table below it).
  3. Complete checkout in the Stripe tab that opens. Your workspace is upgraded as soon as payment lands.
If Granola shows a billing contact email instead of an Upgrade button, your workspace admin manages billing. Ask them to run the upgrade or add you as a billing contact in Stripe. Someone else needs to pay? From Settings > Billing, click Share checkout link to generate a secure link (valid 7 days) you can send to a finance team member or admin. They can complete checkout without needing access to your Granola account. Have a coupon or promo code? In Settings > Billing, click Use coupon to enter it. Promo codes are workspace-specific: they apply to the workspace where they’re redeemed and can’t be transferred to another workspace. If you’re on a free trial, applying a coupon doesn’t shorten or cancel the trial; the discount is applied to your first payment after the trial ends. Lenny Product Pass codes apply to new Granola accounts only and can’t be combined with an existing Business subscription. Just want to upgrade yourself, not your whole workspace? Create a personal workspace and upgrade that one. Notes and folders are not shared across workspaces.

Upgrade to Enterprise

Enterprise plans include admin controls, org-wide policy management, priority support, SSO (for teams with 50+ users), and the option to bill annually. You can upgrade to Enterprise yourself, the same way you’d upgrade to Business:
  1. In Granola, go to Settings > Billing.
  2. Click Upgrade on the Enterprise card (or on the plan comparison table below it).
  3. Complete checkout in the Stripe tab that opens. Your workspace is upgraded as soon as payment lands.
Talking to our sales team is optional. If you’d rather walk through seat count, an annual contract, or custom security requirements before you upgrade, contact sales@granola.so or click Talk to us in the Contact Sales card at the bottom of Settings > Billing.

Annual billing

Annual billing is available on Enterprise contracts only. Reach out to sales@granola.so to discuss. Basic and Business are billed monthly.

Startup and student programs

Granola offers 12 months free of Granola Business for accepted startups and students. After acceptance, go to Settings > Billing and complete the upgrade checkout. Your coupon should be applied automatically. Until you complete this step your account remains on the standard trial and you may keep receiving trial-ending notifications.

How workspace billing works

Granola subscriptions are per-workspace, not per-user:
  • Every member of a workspace shares the same plan tier.
  • You’re billed per active seat. Pending invitations don’t count; a person is only billed once they accept and join.
  • Adding or removing members automatically adjusts your seat count with proration (see how to read your invoice).
  • If you belong to multiple workspaces on paid plans, you’ll see separate charges for each workspace. Each workspace’s plan can be different (e.g. free personal, Business at work).
Mixed plan tiers within a single workspace are not supported. If only some of your team need Business, either keep a smaller Business workspace with just those members, or split into a Business workspace and a Free workspace (notes and folders aren’t shared across workspaces). To consolidate to one paid workspace, transfer your notes, then switch to the other workspace and cancel its subscription from Settings > Billing.

Common billing tasks

Manage billing under Settings > Billing in Granola. Payments run through Stripe; Manage subscription opens Stripe’s billing portal, where most of the tasks below happen. If you’re on Business or Enterprise as part of a team, billing is usually managed by a workspace admin, so you’ll see their email listed as the billing contact instead of a Manage button. Change your billing email. In Stripe’s portal, update the email on file for invoices and receipts. Find receipts and invoices. Open Stripe’s portal to view and download past invoices and receipts. Ask your admin to send copies or add you as a billing contact in Stripe if you’re not the billing owner. For help reading a specific invoice, see Understanding your invoice. Add GST, VAT, or a company tax ID. In Stripe’s portal, add your Tax ID under Billing information. Tax such as VAT is calculated from your billing address; a valid VAT registration removes VAT from future invoices. Tax already charged on past invoices cannot be reimbursed by Granola; reclaim it through your own tax process. Tax exemptions. If your organization is tax exempt, send your exemption certificate to hey@granola.so and we’ll update your account. Downgrade or cancel. In Stripe’s portal, select Cancel subscription or change plan. Your subscription runs until the end of the current billing period; after that you’re on Basic (free), which limits in-app note history to the last 30 days. To downgrade only some seats, remove those members from the workspace or move them to a different workspace; billing updates automatically. See Cancelling your subscription for full details. Update the payment method after removing a workspace member. Removing a member does not remove their payment method from the subscription. If the removed person’s card is on file, it will continue to be charged. Update the payment method via Settings > Billing > Manage subscription. What happens when a free trial ends. On a time-limited trial of Business or Enterprise, you have full access until the trial end date. When the trial ends, either subscribe from Settings > Billing (you’ll be charged) or you’re moved to Basic (30-day in-app note history, Slack-only integrations, Auto-only Chat models). You’ll receive an email before the trial ends.

Removing members from a workspace

Removing a member deactivates their account within that workspace, and they lose access to all their personal notes stored in the workspace. Before removing someone, consider whether they need to export or transfer any important notes. Removal requires a typed confirmation to prevent accidents.

”What stopped working?” I’ve been moved to the Basic plan

If you’ve been moved to Basic and something you used before no longer works, here’s what changed:
On Basic, only the last 30 days of notes are visible in the app. Older notes are stored but not accessible. To retrieve titles and summaries for your full history, export a CSV from Settings > Profile > Generate CSV.
Integrations other than Slack (Notion, Zapier, Attio, HubSpot, Affinity) are only available on Business and Enterprise. Slack remains available on Basic.
Basic workspaces use Auto only. Business and Enterprise can manually select standard and thinking models. On Enterprise, Fable 5 must also be enabled by a workspace admin under Settings > Workspace > Data security.
Billing is per workspace. If you’re in more than one workspace, each has its own plan. The app shows the plan for the workspace you’re currently in. See Workspaces.

Security and compliance

All plans include industry-standard security: encryption in transit and at rest, secure AWS hosting in the US region, and the option to opt out of model training. For details visit our Trust Center or security page, or contact sales@granola.so for Enterprise security discussions.
