Local cache encryption

Over the next few weeks, we’ll finish encrypting Granola’s local cache. We’ve already encrypted access to enhanced notes and calendar events. We’re making this change to make the app more secure and performant for all users. We know that some folks have built workflows that rely on the local cache today. Our cache and private API weren’t designed for these workflows, so we’ve built a public API and MCP server for programmatic access to your Granola context instead. We’re committed to maintaining and improving the public API to make sure it meets your needs. So if you have requests, need support moving across or have any other questions, drop us an email at hey@granola.so.

Highlighted changes

Search takes you straight to people and companies: Dante made search smarter about exact matches. When you type a name that matches a person or company in your notes, you’ll jump straight to their page instead of wading through generic search results. A small change that saves time every day.Settings are easier to navigate: Sam T and Sam S reorganised the settings sidebar. Related pages are now grouped together - integrations, workspace, and preferences each have their own section instead of being spread across a long list. Workspace admins also get a new dedicated section for managing data export and note transfer permissions.Chat is more reliable: Toby, Robert, and Dante fixed several issues that were affecting chat quality. Quoted references are clickable again so you can jump to the source. Duplicate popups no longer appear after closing a chat window. And garbled reference codes that sometimes showed up during live meetings are now properly formatted. The chat history menu also loads much faster if you have lots of past conversations.

Other improvements

  • Sam T added an exit confirmation when you quit Granola while recording - previously, Cmd-Q would silently keep transcribing in the background with no indication, which was confusing
  • Sam G improved @mentions so your own name appears at the bottom of suggestions, making it quicker to tag the person you’re looking for
  • Paavan polished the meeting details popup with locally-formatted dates and a calendar icon, and refreshed the share notes menu with cleaner icons and a visible globe when sharing a public link
  • Sam S simplified the chat loading indicators - no more fake progress text like “Almost there”
  • The dictation visualiser in chat looks a bit nicer now, thanks to Ross
  • Dante tidied up the macOS application menu to follow standard conventions and made the meeting countdown timer stop jittering as the seconds tick down
  • Ari cleaned up the chat header by replacing the redundant “New chat” text with just the pencil icon
  • Sam T increased how many transcript segments you can redact at once - now up to 500, so larger deletions don’t need multiple passes
  • Nick F removed the extensions page from settings - it’s no longer needed

Bug fixes

  • Dante fixed Enhanced Notes sometimes not appearing after being generated in the background - this happened if you navigated away while Granola was still working
  • Sam G fixed CRM auto-search not working for users with email providers like Gmail or Outlook - attendees weren’t being matched to their contacts
  • Mehedi fixed the recent chats icon going missing from the chat window
  • Dante fixed the icon picker not closing after choosing an icon for a list, and fixed profile pictures not stacking correctly in share suggestions and folder pickers
  • Luke fixed the list rules dialog sometimes appearing behind other parts of the app
  • Ross fixed a crash when viewing shared notes or related meetings that contained emoji
  • JK fixed a duplicate checkmark in the auto-add folder notification
  • Sam T fixed a crash that could happen when viewing meetings with missing attendee data
  • Tikhon fixed the desktop app icon to match the updated brand guidelines
  • Dante fixed the sign out button being the wrong colour
