# Speaker tags
> Set up speaker tags for Google Meet or Zoom to get more detailed speaker attribution in your transcript.
Speaker tags show each participant's name above their parts of the conversation, giving you more detailed attribution than the default **Me** and **Them** labels. When Granola can identify who is speaking, it adds the matching name to the transcript.
## Set up speaker tags
Choose your meeting platform below for setup instructions.
Available on macOS and Windows through the Granola browser extension.
Available on macOS through **Settings > Preferences**.
### For workspace admins
Push the Chrome extension via Google Admin and pre-grant macOS Accessibility permission via MDM.
## Use speaker tags in a meeting
Once set up, there's nothing extra to do during a meeting. Start your call and transcription as usual, then open the transcript panel to see speaker names.
Speaker tags only apply while Granola is actively transcribing — they do not add names to older transcripts. Speaker tags also do not start transcription by themselves: Granola only transcribes when you open a meeting note or start a New Note. ## What speaker tags can and cannot identify
* **People who join individually**: Granola uses the display name your meeting platform shows for each participant.
* **People sharing a meeting-room device**: If several people speak through the same shared device, Granola cannot distinguish the individuals using it.
* **Audio outside the call**: Audio playing from elsewhere on your computer may be transcribed without a matching speaker name.
* **Overlapping speech**: If several people speak at once, Granola may not be able to assign every part of the conversation to the correct person.
When speaker tags aren't available or enabled, transcripts show **Me** and **Them**, corresponding to your microphone input and system audio. Even then, our AI usually does a good job of inferring speakers from contextual clues in the transcript, and you can correct a name directly in your notes or ask Granola Chat to update it.
## Privacy and in-meeting notice
Speaker tags do not record audio or video. Granola captures audio for transcription as described in [How transcription works](/help-center/taking-notes/transcription).
Speaker tags identify speakers in your transcript; they do not notify participants that Granola is in use. To notify participants, see [our transparency features](/help-center/consent-security-privacy/transparency-solutions/introduction).
