# Speaker tags in Microsoft Teams

> Set up Microsoft Teams speaker tags on macOS or Windows to show speaker names in your Granola transcript.

Speaker tags in Microsoft Teams are available in the Granola desktop app on **macOS and Windows**. You need the **Microsoft Teams desktop app**; speaker tags are not supported in the web client. No browser extension is needed.

[Speaker tags](/help-center/taking-notes/speaker-attribution) use participant display names and active-speaker information from Microsoft Teams to show who said what in your transcript. Names appear when Granola can identify the speaker.

## Set up speaker tags

Make sure your Granola desktop app is up to date.

### macOS

1. Open Granola and go to **Settings > Preferences > Speaker tags**.
2. If the row already shows **Enabled**, you’re ready to go. Otherwise, click **Set up** beside the row that includes **Microsoft Teams**.
3. Follow the prompts to turn on **Granola** in **System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility**.
4. Return to Granola and check that the row shows **Enabled**.

If Granola already has Accessibility access, you do not need to grant it again. On a managed Mac, your admin can [pre-grant access via MDM](/help-center/taking-notes/speaker-attribution-for-enterprise-admins#macos-accessibility).

### Windows

Open **Settings > Preferences > Speaker tags** in Granola and check that the row including **Microsoft Teams** shows **Enabled**. No separate Accessibility permission is needed on Windows.

## Use speaker tags in a meeting

Start your call in the Microsoft Teams desktop app and start transcription in Granola as usual. Open the transcript panel to see speaker names. Speaker tags apply while Granola is transcribing; they do not add names to older transcripts.

## Troubleshooting

    Go to **Settings > Preferences > Speaker tags**.

    If it is not visible, make sure your Granola app is up to date by installing the latest version from [our website](https://www.granola.ai/).

  <Accordion title="Granola still shows Set up after I granted Accessibility access (macOS)">
    1. Open **System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility**.

    2. Make sure **Granola** is listed and switched on.

    3. Return to Granola and reopen **Settings > Preferences > Speaker tags**.

    4. If the row that includes **Microsoft Teams** still does not show **Enabled**, fully quit and reopen Granola.

    If Granola is already switched on in Accessibility settings but the permission is not detected, switch it off and on again, then reopen Granola.

  <Accordion title="My transcript is working, but speaker names are missing">
    Check that:

    * You are using the Microsoft Teams desktop app on macOS or Windows, rather than the Microsoft Teams web client.
    * The row that includes **Microsoft Teams** under **Settings > Preferences > Speaker tags** shows **Enabled**.
    * Granola was open and transcribing while the Microsoft Teams call was active.
    * The transcript was captured after speaker tags were set up; names are not applied retrospectively.

    Some transcript sections may not have a speaker name if Microsoft Teams did not show a clear active speaker at that moment, participants were speaking over each other, or several people were using a shared meeting-room device.

    Speaker tags rely on the participant name and current-speaker information shown by Microsoft Teams. If a participant uses a different display name, several people use one room device, or people speak over each other, the label may not identify the individual correctly.
