# Setting up Granola Watermark (User Guide)
> Set up Granola Watermark on macOS or Windows — whether you turn it on yourself or your workspace requires it: install the Granola camera and select it in your meeting app.

This guide is for workspace members setting up Granola Watermark on their own desktop app — whether you're turning it on yourself or your workspace requires it. Adds a visible indicator to your video so other participants can see that Granola is transcribing. It works with any video app that lets you choose a camera source — Google Meet, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and others — on both macOS and Windows. The watermark only appears while Granola is actively transcribing and disappears when you stop.
## Set up Granola Watermark on Mac
On macOS, Granola Watermark requires **macOS 14.0 or later**.
### 1. Start the one-time setup
How you start the one-time setup depends on whether you're turning the watermark on yourself or your workspace requires it. Both paths lead to the same installation dialog.
1. Go to **Settings > Preferences > Transparency > Granola Watermark**.
2. Next to **Granola Watermark**, click **Set up**.
When your admin requires the watermark, you don't start from preferences. The next time you open Granola, the **Home** view shows a **Setup required** card explaining that your workspace requires a watermark on your video while transcribing.
1. Click **Set up now** on that card.
Because your workspace manages this setting, you can't turn the watermark off from individual preferences. Granola may also stop transcribing until your meeting app is using a **Granola Watermark** camera, so complete the setup before your next call.
### 2. Install the Granola camera
After that, in the setup dialog that opens, go through the installation steps:
1. Click **Add extension** to install the Granola camera.
2. A macOS system dialog appears. Click **Open System Settings** — **not OK**.
3. In System Settings, toggle on the **Granola** camera extension and confirm with your Mac password or Touch ID.
4. Return to Granola — the watermark is now ready to use.
If you dismissed the system dialog by clicking **OK** instead of **Open System Settings**, the extension won't be enabled yet — see [I can't find the Granola extension in macOS System Settings](#troubleshooting-macos) below to turn it on manually.
### 3. Select Granola Watermark in each meeting app
The first time you use a meeting app after installing, choose the Granola camera in that app's video settings. It's named after your existing camera with `- Granola Watermark` added — for example, `FaceTime HD Camera - Granola Watermark`. Most apps remember the choice, so you only do this once per app.

It also works in Slack and any other app that lets you pick a camera source — choose the ` - Granola Watermark` camera in that app's video settings.
Until you switch cameras, Granola shows a reminder in the meeting view:
The watermark only appears on your video while Granola is actively transcribing — when transcription stops, it will disappear.
If you turn your camera off mid-call, Granola can continue transcribing only after transparency has already been established in that meeting (for example, Granola Watermark was shown earlier in the call, or an automated chat message was sent).
## Troubleshooting (macOS)
First, make sure Granola is running. Granola cameras are only available while Granola is open; if you quit Granola completely, the cameras disappear from meeting apps.
If Granola is running and the cameras still don't appear, fully quit and reopen the meeting app, then check the camera picker again. For browser-based meetings, quit and reopen the whole browser, not just the meeting tab. This applies to Zoom, Google Meet in Chrome, Slack, Microsoft Teams, and other meeting apps.
Most meeting apps mirror your own video preview, so text in your self-view can look backwards. Other participants usually see the non-mirrored version, with the watermark text the right way around.
On macOS, Granola can check whether the Granola camera is installed and working.
1. Open **Settings > Get help** in Granola.
2. Click **Troubleshooting**, then find **Granola Watermark**.
3. Click **Copy details** if you need to send diagnostics to support, or **Reinstall extension** if Granola reports a problem.
If you dismissed the setup dialog (clicked **OK** instead of **Open System Settings**), or Granola can't open the right page automatically, you can enable the extension manually. Depending on your macOS version, it appears in a different place.
1. Open **System Settings**.
2. Go to **General > Login Items & Extensions**.
3. Scroll to **By App and By Category**, click **By Category**, then click the info icon next to **Camera Extensions**.
4. Enable the Granola extension.
5. If Granola also asks for camera access, go to **Privacy & Security > Camera** and enable Granola. Camera access is separate from the camera extension approval.
1. Open **System Settings**.
2. Go to **Privacy & Security**.
3. Scroll down to **Security** and look for the message that system software from Granola was blocked from loading.
4. Click **Allow**.
5. If Granola also asks for camera access, go to **Privacy & Security > Camera** and enable Granola. Camera access is separate from the camera extension approval.
After enabling the extension, enter your Mac password or use Touch ID to confirm, then return to Granola.
Granola needs to detect you using the Granola camera.
1. Open a new browser tab.
2. Type `meet.new` in your URL bar and press `Enter`.
3. Select a **Granola Watermark** option as your camera.
If you still can't see the camera, try quitting and restarting your browser.
4. All set! Make sure you use this camera in all of your meetings.
Granola needs to detect you using the Granola camera.
1. Open the Zoom app and make sure you're logged in.
2. Start a new meeting.
3. Select a **Granola Watermark** option as your camera.
If you still can't see the camera, try quitting and restarting Zoom.
4. All set! Make sure you use this camera in all of your meetings.
1. Open the Microsoft Teams app and make sure you're logged in.
2. Click **Meet**.
3. Click **Create a meeting link**, then **Create and copy link**.
4. Click **Join** for the meeting you just created.
5. Select a **Granola Watermark** option as your camera.
If you still can't see the camera, try quitting and restarting Microsoft Teams.
6. All set! Make sure you use this camera in all of your meetings.
This can happen in browser-based meetings (Google Meet, Zoom web, Teams web, etc.) when the camera list gets out of sync — for example, right after installing or updating Granola Watermark.
To fix it, **quit and reopen your browser**, then rejoin the meeting. When the meeting reloads, open the camera picker and select a **Granola Watermark** option.
