# Granola Zoom app

> Use Granola with Zoom for AI note-taking. Install the Granola Zoom app for meeting transcription and notes.

This feature is currently in **beta** for **Enterprise** plans.

# Overview

The Granola Zoom app lets participants know when Granola is being used during a Zoom meeting. Granola transcribes meeting content when your organisation has enabled it and the meeting host allows it. The in-meeting notice is part of Zoom’s native experience:

1. **A notification appears:** A banner appears at the top of the meeting with the message: “The content of this meeting is being shared with app(s).”

![The content of this meeting is being shared with app](https://mintcdn.com/granola-c3940166/exVPGg1HxQfEsNvA/help-center/assets/in-meeting-notice-zoom/1-content-is-being-shared.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=exVPGg1HxQfEsNvA\&q=85\&s=088d8fb4678f1a26a8db88ab0671769d)

2. **Click to see the app:** Participants can tap “View app(s)” in the banner or open the Zoom Apps panel to see that the Granola app is running and accessing the meeting. Zoom shows this so everyone knows which apps are receiving meeting content.

3. **A badge appears:** Zoom shows a small Granola icon in the meeting interface so participants can see that an app is accessing meeting content.

Participants get clear, built-in visibility that Granola is in use without a bot in the meeting. This works on macOS and Windows.

## Who controls whether Granola's Zoom app transcribes

| Who | What they control |
| - | - |
| **Zoom admin (host's organization)** | Must **allow apps to access meeting content** in the Zoom web portal (account, group, or user level). If this is off, the Zoom app does not run for that org's meetings. |
| **Meeting host** | Must approve real-time sharing (or the org can set **auto-start** so the host doesn't have to approve each time). The host can block, pause, or stop sharing mid-meeting. |
| **Granola user** | Installs the Granola Zoom app (or has it installed on their behalf by a workspace admin) and has in-meeting notices enabled in Granola. |
| **Other participants** | Need Zoom client 6.5.5 or newer for compatibility. They cannot enable or disable the Granola app from recording; the host and admin control access. |

## End to End Flow

1. **Before the meeting:** A Zoom admin enables “Share realtime meeting content with apps” for the organization (or group/user). Optionally, they can enable auto-start so approved apps (like Granola) can receive real-time content without the host approving each time.

![Allow apps to access meeting content from your Zoom settings](https://mintcdn.com/granola-c3940166/exVPGg1HxQfEsNvA/help-center/assets/in-meeting-notice-zoom/4-allow-apps-to-access-meeting-content.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=exVPGg1HxQfEsNvA\&q=85\&s=d0915bad2f7bcd1fbc2f7b30bd6d8054)

2. **Installing the Zoom app:** To setup Granola's Zoom app, a workspace admin must install the Granola Zoom app from the Zoom Marketplace for all employees.

![Find the app in the Zoom marketplace](https://mintcdn.com/granola-c3940166/exVPGg1HxQfEsNvA/help-center/assets/in-meeting-notice-zoom/5-zoom-marketplace.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=exVPGg1HxQfEsNvA\&q=85\&s=de43b4b1433acf2bc2c65448e0afff1f)

Alternatively, you can install the app from the Granola app settings. Click your workspace name in the bottom-left corner, then select **Settings**. Go to Settings > Workspace > General > In-meeting notice (App-based), then click `Install` in the `Install Zoom app` section.

![Find the app in the Granola app](https://mintcdn.com/granola-c3940166/WZiePz843KjhHshy/help-center/assets/in-meeting-notice-zoom/8-in-app-installation.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=WZiePz843KjhHshy\&q=85\&s=fd0ba36a5c62eef428ecd3e3de2f54e0)

3. **Transcribing the meeting:**  If you’re the host and have the Granola Zoom app, it can connect and transcribe. If you’re a participant, you must request for the host to approve real-time sharing for Granola to connect - unless the host’s organisation has auto-approved Zoom apps that access meeting content, in which case no approval is needed.

![Requesting RTMS](https://mintcdn.com/granola-c3940166/exVPGg1HxQfEsNvA/help-center/assets/in-meeting-notice-zoom/6-rtms-request.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=exVPGg1HxQfEsNvA\&q=85\&s=ba0c0cb345ef42ecc2b0fb022aa59ab7)

4. **Each meeting that Granola is running:** The badge and app visibility are shown for the duration of the meeting while the Granola Zoom app is connected and the meeting is being transcribed; if you leave and rejoin, Zoom will show the same when the app is connected again.

![Granola app accessing meeting content](https://mintcdn.com/granola-c3940166/exVPGg1HxQfEsNvA/help-center/assets/in-meeting-notice-zoom/7-apps-accessing-content.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=exVPGg1HxQfEsNvA\&q=85\&s=4ae32520bb44be650b60e92541076c63)

If the host’s organization has not allowed apps to access meeting content, or the host blocks or pauses sharing, Granola will not receive meeting content and the badge/app visibility will not appear for that meeting.

# Things to know

## Installing for your organization (Zoom admins)

Zoom workspace admins can install the app for all users and optionally auto-start it:

1. Go to the [Granola app on the Zoom Marketplace](https://marketplace.zoom.us/apps).
2. Click "Add for others" (or equivalent) to install the app for your Zoom account/org.
3. Complete any Zoom authorization steps.
4. In the [Zoom app settings](https://zoom.us/profile/setting?tab=zoomapps), scroll to "Auto-start apps that access shared realtime meeting content".
5. Click + Choose an app to auto-start and select Granola.
6. In the [Zoom app settings](https://zoom.us/profile/setting?tab=zoomapps), enable “Share realtime meeting content with apps”

After this, the Granola app is available (and can auto-open) for users in the org when they join Zoom meetings.

## When the notice won’t appear

* The host’s Zoom organization hasn't enabled "share realtime meeting content with apps"
* The host has not approved real-time sharing (and auto-start is not enabled).
* The host is not in the meeting (Zoom requires an active, eligible host for apps to access the meeting).
* You have not installed the Granola Zoom app or enabled Zoom consent notices in Granola.

When any of these are true, the badge and app visibility (in-meeting notice) will not appear for that meeting.

## What Granola does and doesn’t do with meeting content

* When the host and their organization allow it, Granola's Zoom app receives real-time meeting content to provide transcription and meeting notes. The in-meeting notice is how we inform participants that this is happening.
* The in-meeting notice (badge and notification banner) is Zoom’s native way of showing which apps are accessing the meeting.
* How we use and protect meeting data is described in our [Privacy Policy](https://docs.granola.ai/help-center/policies/privacy-policy.md) and related docs.

# Removing the Granola Zoom app

**For yourself:** Sign into [Zoom App Marketplace Added Apps page](https://marketplace.zoom.us/user/installed), find Granola, open its menu (three dots), and click "Remove".

**For your workspace:** Sign into [Zoom App Marketplace Apps Dashboard page](https://marketplace.zoom.us/user/apps-dashboard), go to "Apps on account", find Granola, navigate to the "Manage app" section and click "Remove App".
Once removed, the app will be deactivated for all users on your account.

After removal, Zoom will no longer allow Granola's Zoom app to receive real-time meeting content, and the badge and app visibility (in-meeting notice) will no longer appear for your Zoom meetings.

# FAQs

**Does the Zoom app access my meeting content?**

When the host and their organization allow it, Granola's Zoom app receives real-time meeting content (e.g. audio) so we can provide transcription and meeting notes. Zoom’s in-meeting notice (badge and consent banner) gives participants transparent visibility that this is happening. We use that content only to provide and improve those features, as described in our [Privacy Policy](https://docs.granola.ai/help-center/policies/privacy-policy.md). We do not send audio or video back into the meeting.

**Who controls whether Granola can access the meeting?**

Zoom admins (for the host’s organization) must allow apps to access meeting content. The meeting host must approve real-time sharing (or the org can set auto-start). If either is disabled, Granola will not receive meeting content and the in-meeting notice (badge and app visibility) will not appear for that meeting.
